# Inbound calls for insurance agents: how Epic Life leads work

Inbound calls are phone calls from people who asked about insurance first. Epic Life agents buy exclusive direct call-in leads and live transfers, generated through Epic Life's lead vendors, at a discounted rate. The lead platform is built for TCPA and HIPAA compliance. Leads cost money, so lead math matters.

01

## Exclusive calls

Direct call-ins and live transfers are exclusive to the agent.

02

## Not free

Agents buy leads at a discounted rate. The cost comes out of your profit.

03

## Vendor-generated

Leads come through Epic Life's lead vendors.

04

## Built for compliance

The lead platform is built for TCPA and HIPAA compliance.

05

## Know your math

Cost per sale equals lead spend divided by sales.

## What are inbound calls for insurance agents?

Inbound calls are calls from people who asked for information first, usually by responding to an offer. The agent does not cold call. The prospect already has an interest in coverage.

Epic Life agents work on inbound calls. They buy direct call-in leads and live transfers. Both are exclusive to the agent. Epic Life’s lead vendors generate them.

## What types of leads exist?

The lead market has several types. Prices and quality differ. Epic Life’s model uses the first two.

Type

How it works

Shared?

Notes

Direct call-in

Prospect calls a number and reaches you

Exclusive at Epic Life

Prospect self-selected

Live transfer

Prospect is connected to you on a live line

Exclusive at Epic Life

Often pre-screened

Fresh lead record

New contact you must call

Often shared

Needs outbound calling

Aged lead

Older contact record

Often shared

Lower cost, lower response

For a full comparison, read [inbound calls vs live transfers vs aged leads](https://epicline.preview.multisites.ai/guides/inbound-calls-vs-live-transfers-vs-aged-leads). The glossary has entries on [live transfer](https://epicline.preview.multisites.ai/glossary/live-transfer), [exclusive lead](https://epicline.preview.multisites.ai/glossary/exclusive-lead), and [aged lead](https://epicline.preview.multisites.ai/glossary/aged-lead).

## Are the leads free?

No. Epic Life agents buy leads at a discounted rate. We do not say “free leads,” because they are not. Many free-lead pitches hide the cost in lower commission, fees, or required purchases. Always ask where the money goes.

Epic Life has not published its price list here. Ask Epic Life for the current price list in writing, plus the replacement or refund policy for bad leads.

## How do I work out whether leads pay off?

Use lead math. The formula is simple.

Cost per sale = total lead spend divided by number of paid sales.

Profit per sale = commission per sale minus cost per sale minus your other costs, then adjusted for chargebacks.

Variable

Why it matters

Lead price

Sets your cost per call

Close rate

More closes lower your cost per sale

Commission per sale

Depends on carrier, product, and contract level

Chargebacks

Lapses can reverse commission

Your other costs

Taxes, tools, licenses

Example, to show the arithmetic only: if you must take five calls to make one paid sale, one sale carries the cost of five leads. These are not Epic Life figures. Measure your own numbers and look at them every week. See [compensation](https://epicline.preview.multisites.ai/careers/compensation) and [life insurance chargebacks](https://epicline.preview.multisites.ai/guides/life-insurance-chargebacks).

## Is the lead platform compliant?

Epic Life states its lead platform is built for TCPA compliance, including Do Not Call, and that it processes and stores protected health information on AWS in a HIPAA-compliant way. That design lets agents offer some products by phone that are often limited to face-to-face sales.

Know what this does and does not mean. Federal rules still apply to you. The FTC says sellers by phone generally must check the National Do Not Call Registry. The FCC has rules on consent for certain automated or prerecorded telemarketing calls, and court rulings on those rules are evolving. Your agency’s guidance is your starting point. No platform removes all legal risk.

## How are calls routed to agents?

Epic Life has not published a routing formula, and this page does not invent one. Ask about it directly:

- How are calls distributed among agents?
- Can I choose which lead types I buy?
- What happens when volume is low?
- How do I report a bad lead, and what is the replacement policy?

## What red flags should you watch for in a lead offer?

Lead offers vary a lot. Treat these as warning signs, with Epic Life or anyone else:

- “Free leads” with no clear explanation of the real cost.
- No written refund or replacement policy.
- Shared leads sold as exclusive.
- No answer on how consent was collected.
- Pressure to buy large volumes before you have tested the quality.
- Claims about results with no documents.

A good seller explains the source, the price, the consent process, and the refund policy without being pushed.

## How should a new agent start with leads?

Start small and measure. Buy enough volume to learn, not enough to hurt if you struggle. Track every lead, every sale, and every lapse. After a few weeks, compute cost per sale. Then decide whether to buy more.

Keep four numbers each week: leads bought, calls answered, applications submitted, and policies issued and paid. Add lapses so you can see chargebacks coming. Pair the numbers with coaching. If your close rate is low, improve the call before you add spend. Small changes in close rate often matter more than small changes in lead price.

## How does the technology help?

Calls land in a customized CRM with a phone system, AI follow-up, and funnels. A comparative quoting tool and GIACT bank verification help you finish the sale on the call. ## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between an inbound call, a live transfer, and an aged lead?

An inbound call is a client dialing in after seeing an offer. A live transfer connects a prospect to you on the line right away. An aged lead is an older contact record you call later. Epic Life agents buy direct call-ins and live transfers, which are exclusive to them.

### Are Epic Life's leads free?

No. Agents buy direct call-in leads and live transfers at a discounted rate. Epic Life does not call them free. Be cautious with any agency that advertises free leads. Ask what the real cost is through commission splits, fees, or required purchases.

### What does exclusive mean?

Exclusive means the lead is sold to one agent, not shared with several. You are not racing other agents for the same client. Exclusivity usually raises the price per lead, so ask exactly how Epic Life defines and enforces it.

### Who generates the calls?

Epic Life's lead vendors generate them. Epic Life states that its lead platform is built for TCPA compliance, including Do Not Call. Ask for details about how consent is collected, what the caller was told, and how disputes are handled.

### What happens when call volume dips?

Lead flow depends on vendors, seasons, and demand, and Epic Life has not published volume figures. Ask how calls are routed, whether you can pause or buy more, and what the refund or replacement policy is for bad leads. Get those answers in writing.

### How do I avoid Do Not Call and TCPA problems?

Follow your agency's compliance rules, check the National Do Not Call Registry where it applies, and keep records of consent. Inbound calls where the client called you are lower risk than cold calling, but they do not remove your duty to follow the rules.
