# Dialer

A dialer is software that places phone calls for agents automatically, so they spend less time typing numbers. Types include power, progressive, and predictive dialers, and some can leave prerecorded messages.

## Why it matters

Dialers raise agent productivity, but they also raise legal risk. The TCPA limits use of automatic telephone dialing systems and prerecorded voices, especially for mobile numbers. Agencies must check consent, Do Not Call status, and calling hours. Families who receive repeated automated calls can file complaints. Agents should ask their agency how its dialer is set up and keep records of compliance steps.
