# Funeral Costs

Funeral costs are the expenses for a funeral or other final arrangements, such as services, a casket or urn, a burial plot or cremation, and transport. Prices vary widely by provider and location.

## Why it matters

The FTC Funeral Rule gives consumers the right to receive an itemized price list from a funeral provider and to choose only the goods and services they want. Comparing providers can help. Cemetery fees and flowers are often separate. Many families use life insurance, savings, or a prepaid plan to cover costs. Because costs differ by region and choices, get written prices before deciding.
