# Life-only License

A life-only license is a producer license limited to life insurance and, in many states, annuities. It does not allow the holder to sell health, auto, or home insurance.

## Why it matters

It is a common first license for telesales agents who sell term, whole life, final expense, and similar products. Study time is shorter than for multi-line licenses. Some products, like variable products, may need extra registration. States name and define lines differently, so confirm what the home state's life license covers, especially for annuities.
