Commission Split

A commission split is an agreement that divides a commission between two or more parties, such as two agents or an agent and an agency. The shares are set in writing.

Why it matters

Splits are common when agents share a case or when an agency takes a share for providing leads or support. Check licensing rules, since states generally require that commission go to licensed parties. Ask for the split in writing before you work a case. Disputes often start when a split was only agreed by phone, so use a written note.
