Independent Marketing Organization (IMO)

An IMO, or independent marketing organization, is a company that recruits independent agents and gives them access to carrier contracts, training, leads, and support. It is not an insurance carrier.

Why it matters

An IMO usually holds contracts with many carriers and shares them with its agents, often at a stated contract level. Agents may earn commission through the IMO or directly from the carrier, depending on the deal. Terms vary widely, so compare training, lead options, release rules, and how chargebacks are handled before joining one.
