MIB (Medical Information Bureau) (MIB)

MIB is a membership organization that holds coded information from past life, health, and disability insurance applications. Member carriers check it to verify what an applicant has told them.

Why it matters

Carriers use MIB to confirm answers and flag conditions. It is not a full medical record. You can request your own MIB consumer file and dispute errors. A hit does not mean a decline, but a mismatch with your application can cause delays or problems. Rules and reporting vary by carrier.
