Compliance and regulation

Advertising Compliance

Advertising compliance means making sure insurance ads, mailers, scripts, and web pages follow the law. Statements must be truthful, clear, and not misleading, and some materials need carrier or state approval.

Why it matters

State rules based on NAIC models and federal telemarketing laws apply to insurance marketing. Common issues include implying a government link, using vague claims about guaranteed approval, and leaving out limits. Carriers often require their approval before an agent uses their name. Families can compare an ad with the actual policy terms. Agents should use approved materials only, since false advertising can lead to complaints and loss of license.
