Call Recording Consent

Call recording consent is the permission needed to record a phone call. Federal law requires one party's consent, and some states require all parties to agree, which is called two-party or all-party consent.

Why it matters

Because insurance calls often cross state lines, agents usually tell every caller the call is recorded. This approach is safe in both one-party and all-party states. Recording without needed consent can lead to civil or criminal penalties. Families can ask whether a call is recorded and why, and can choose to end the call. Agents should follow their agency policy and check the rules for the state of each party.
