Why it matters
Federal rules require telemarketers to keep a record of opt-out requests and to stop calling those people. The request should be honored within the time the rules set, and the record should be kept for years. This rule applies even when a person was once a customer. Agents should log requests right away and share them with their agency. Families can ask any caller to place them on the company's do-not-call list.
