Sales and lead terms

Shared Lead

A shared lead is a prospect record sold to more than one agent or agency. Several agents may call the same person, which lowers the price per lead and often lowers the chance of a sale.

Why it matters

Shared leads cost less but bring more competition. A prospect may receive several calls and may be tired of them by the time the third agent calls. Agents who use shared leads should call fast and keep records of consent. Consumers who do not want many calls should read the consent text on a form, which may name the companies that may call. Results depend on the vendor, how many agents get the lead, and the product.
